Format of current classes:
Open level Bellydance class taught by Lorelei
Fine for beginners.
Advanced students welcome too. You can always ask for a zill pattern, layer, or just work on the move EVEN FASTER. (Beginners will start with 1/4 and 1/2 time, but advanced students can work on full time and doubletime)
Class usually focuses on a few moves, some in place and some traveling. And we put them all together at the end of class in a short improvisation.
Past classes and workshops:
Zills and Drills: Finger cymbals, zills, sagat…Want to play more than triplets? Need help dancing and zilling at the same time? Want to take your zilling to the next level? Lorelei will share finger cymbal hints and drills to help beginner and intermediate students of all bellydance styles move to the next level. Drills for playing in place, moving, drum rhythms and cymbal rhythms will all be covered. You will need a pair of finger cymbals for this class. And be sure to check the elastic before class.

Balance points: on your head and MORE
We will explore many balancing points, and how to enhance your sword dance before balancing, during balancing, and after balancing. Bellydance experience is necessary for this course. It is suitable for brand new, beginner, and intermediate sword dancers. We will explore different levels of many moves: practice at your own level.
Veil/Double Veil/Wings: limit 10 students **Bring your zills for an extra challenge***
Topic include:
warmup (zills optional)
Entrances with Veil/doubleVeil/Wings
Wraps and unwrapping
Flourishes, poses and combinations
How to overcome veil problems mid dance (veil stuck to face? here's a solution)
We will experiment with poses, flourishes and combinations that work with Veil, double veil and wings. Each will have a slightly different result based on the prop and material it is made out of.
Rhythm and ZIlls: limit 15 students Learn to recognize and play basic middle eastern rhythms. This class will focus more on playing zills, but it will include some playing demonstration on a doumbek. Students will practice with zills, as well as clapping. We will also listen to some recorded music and identify the rhythm used.
We will learn to play patterns that complement the main rhythm in a song: playing the exact rhythm, playing accents, and playing a complementing rhythm like triplets.
This is a lower impact class, focuses most on hands and fingers. But we will also move with zills: adding some basic bellydance moves to our zill rhythms.
There will be printed information and some zills to borrow. Be sure to request loaner zills before attending class.
